Summary of Responsibilities
The Multimedia Editing Specialist will serve as a full time member of the Multimedia Video unit with the St. Louis Cardinals Communications Department. They will support the Multimedia Video unit by ensuring optimal workflow of media from field shoots to archive. In addition, they are responsible for editing episodes of the weekly Cardinals Insider television show as well as producing Video News Segments, shows, and other related feature videos for television and for the team’s website as part of the team’s growing brand journalism efforts. The ideal candidate must be a self-starter, assertive, optimistic, outgoing, and have a strong passion for the job. Candidates must be able to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed and ability to travel outside the U.S.
Essential Functions of the Job:
- Serve as the primary video and post-production editor for 32 episodes of Cardinals Insider television show, as well as other productions
- Produce 1-2 stories a week to help promote fan awareness of team initiatives
- Troubleshoot video equipment and software to ensure fast-paced communication
- Assist with the process of ingesting and transcoding of video in Avid to ensure proper labeling and archiving of media
- Assist with exporting of media for various internal and external needs
- Ensures delivery of final show file to local stations and media outlets
- Assist with procurement of archival video
- Archives department’s media clips
- Assist staff with video production training
- Work with reporters and videographers on single camera or multiple camera shoots
- Upload video with detailed metadata attached, write and schedule the accompanying blog post, and handle social media posts to drive traffic
- Upload each video to H5, the team’s central digital archive, with detailed meta-data
- Work collaboratively with the staff to handle social media duties, as well as a variety of communication related projects
Education and Experience Required:
- Bachelor of Arts in Journalism, Multimedia Journalism, Cinema, Video, Mass Communication, or related field
- 2-3 years experience as a Multimedia Journalist (MMJ) in television or related news/sports outlet
- 3-5 years experience as a videographer and editor using professional grade HD video
- Ability to troubleshoot video equipment and nonlinear editing softare
- Expert knowledge of Avid Media Composer, Avid ISIS Interplay, and Adobe Media Encoder
- Excellent understanding of media, sports, and baseball
- Experience in public relations or corporate communications
- Excellent collaboration, customer services, and people skills
- Must be detail-oriented and deadline-focused
- Great communication skills, both verbal and written, specifically broadcast and AP writing skills
- Proven ability to work as a team player.
Education and Experience Preferred:
- Master of Arts in Journalism, Multimedia Journalism, Cinema, Video, Mass Communication, or related field
- 3-5 years experience as a Multimedia Journalist (MMJ) in television or related news/sports outlet
- Demonstrated track record of working on deadlines to produce videos of varied lengths
- Strong ability to follow leads and interview individuals for stories
- Avid Certification in Media Composer or Asset Management
- Experience in teaching, mentoring, and/or training others in video shooting and editing
- Knowledge of Adobe After Effects
- Experience working with digital content and new media blogging and social platforms
- Some Spanish language proficiency
