Senior Services Plus seeking Marketing / Public Relations Interns

About Senior Services Plus:

Senior Services Plus is looking for an intern interested in learning all aspects of the public relations and marketing field.

Senior Services Plus is the leader in aging for Southern Illinois. Senior Services Plus, Inc. is a non-profit (501c) agency established to help enrich the lives of older adults through programs and services that encourage independent living.  Senior Services Plus, Inc. serves Madison, Jersey, Macoupin, and St. Clair counties in Illinois, and St. Louis County in Missouri. We are located at 2603 North Rodgers Ave., Alton, IL.

Responsibilities:

The intern will work on a variety of communications and marketing projects and be involved in as many learning opportunities as possible throughout the semester, which may include:

Event Support – assist with planning and promoting SSP events
Media Relations – write and edit media advisories and press releases, assist with media pitches, follow up and track media hits
Project Management – handle multiple tasks and meet multiple deadlines
Publications – write, edit and design content for e-communications, newsletters and website
Research – conduct research as needed for special projects
Social Media – develop content and assist with communications through Facebook and Twitter
Strategic Planning – help to prepare, develop and implement public relations and marketing plans

Overview and Qualifications:

This volunteer intern provides support to and completes specific tasks as assigned by the Marketing Coordinator. Qualified candidates will possess a professional, service-oriented attitude, enthusiastically performing a wide variety of tasks including client interaction, teamwork, project preparation and staffing our events during business hours and after-hours when needed. This intern should be energetic, flexible, punctual, and dependable. Applicants should also have strong writing and communication skills, as well as a solid understanding of social media. Applicants must also be of junior or senior college status or a recent graduate. Applicants should be pursuing a degree in Public Relations, Marketing, Communications or another related field and hold a junior, senior or recent graduate status. Qualified candidates must also have a mode of transportation to and from Senior Services Plus, located at 2603 North Rodgers Ave., Alton, IL 62002.

Internship hours are flexible based on the student’s schedule and the school’s requirements for credit completion if required. A minimum of four hours is required per week. Senior Services Plus’s office hours are 8 am – 4 pm Monday through Friday, plus some evenings and weekends as needed.
