Formerly WSIE 88.7 “The Jazz Station”, the station previously catered to Jazz music. Approaching their 46th year in radio in September, the station has revamped their format and name to continue growth of the station. Re-branding efforts from Mass Comm. Graduate students, the station has officially become “88.7 The Sound“, with that the station has adjusted the music format to Smooth Jazz, Blues and R&B.
“The radio station is becoming more recognized. We are increasing our social media presence and launching a new website. There is a lot of momentum with the radio station that has not existed for a while. We are excited about the all the changes and the response to the direction 88.7 is going,” says Interim General Manger, Steve Jankowski.
“We’ve tried to open the radio station for Mass Communication students for a 400 level “Independent Study” course for 3 credit hours, that could include learning everything about radio. This course could include everything from Management, Ratings, Sales, Production, Formats and Music. Students are immersed in radio in a 1 on 1 setting. We are trying to broaden the number of opportunities for students to engage with the radio station. We want 88.7 The Sound to be a place for students that are interested in radio to come and learn and feel welcome around the station.”
88.7 The Sound will be the media sponsor for “Savor 2016 Edwardsville/Glen Carbon restaurant week” from September 16-25th, with 21 local dining establishments participating.
